Kate Ferdinand was born on 3 June 1991 in Essex, England. She worked in a bank as a business support manager before television changed the direction of her career. Before marriage, she was known as Kate Wright. Viewers first noticed her through her relationship with TOWIE cast member Dan Edgar before she built her own place on the programme.

    Kate Ferdinand’s TOWIE Career

Kate Ferdinand joined The Only Way Is Essex in 2015 and remained part of the cast until 2017. She featured across series 16 to 20 and took part in 62 episodes. Her relationship with Dan Edgar brought extra attention, while the show introduced viewers to her personality and friendships.

The programme was known for arguments, romances and personal drama. Kate later explained that she no longer felt comfortable with those scenes while taking responsibility for Rio Ferdinand’s three children. She wanted greater privacy and felt that leaving was right.

A New Direction Beyond Reality Television

Leaving TOWIE did not end Kate’s public career. It gave her space to develop work in fitness, body confidence, fashion, family life and writing. In 2019, she became the face of a clothing campaign and released Fitter, Happier, Healthier: The Ultimate Body Plan.

The book combined exercise ideas, simple recipes and reflections about motivation. It presented healthy habits as manageable routines that could fit into busy family life, rather than as a short-term challenge.

Kate Ferdinand and Her Husband Rio Ferdinand

Kate Ferdinand’s husband is Rio Ferdinand, the former England captain and Manchester United defender. After retiring from football, Rio moved into broadcasting, business and family-focused work. He is now known for football analysis as well as his long career on the pitch.

Kate and Rio met in Dubai in 2016. Their relationship developed while Kate was becoming part of a family shaped by love, loss and responsibility. Rio’s first wife, Rebecca Ellison, died from breast cancer in 2015, leaving him to raise three children.

    Their Engagement and Wedding

Rio proposed to Kate during a family holiday in Abu Dhabi. The engagement became public on 1 November 2018, when Rio shared photographs and thanked his children for helping keep it secret. The moment showed that the relationship was closely connected with the children.

The couple married on 27 September 2019 at the D’Maris Bay resort in Marmaris, Turkey. Rio’s children played important roles during the ceremony, making the wedding a family occasion. Kate became a wife and a stepmother at the same time, bringing new duties and emotions into her life.

Kate Ferdinand Children and Her Blended Family

Kate is part of a family with five children. She shares two children with Rio: their son Cree, born in December 2020, and their daughter Shae, born in July 2023. She is also stepmother to Lorenz Ferdinand, Tate Ferdinand and Tia Ferdinand, Rio’s children with Rebecca Ellison.

The word blended has a deep meaning in this family. Kate joined a home still living with grief, memories and the absence of a much-loved mother. Her role required patience, care and respect for Rebecca’s place in the children’s lives.

    Becoming a Stepmother

Kate has spoken about feeling like an outsider during the early part of her relationship with Rio. She has discussed the fear of making mistakes and the pressure of supporting children who had lost their mother. Her parents’ separation helped her understand the need for honesty and emotional safety.

She has consistently said that she never wanted to replace Rebecca. Instead, she aimed to offer love, guidance and everyday support while allowing the children to remember their mother. That distinction has shaped the way Kate speaks about step-parenting and has become a central part of her work.

    Cree and Shae

Cree was Kate and Rio’s first child together, born during the coronavirus lockdown. Kate later shared the demands of caring for a young child while remaining present for older stepchildren.

Shae was born in July 2023. Kate later discussed her daughter’s difficult beginning and time in neonatal care, addressing the fear and guilt that can follow a complicated birth.

Lorenz Ferdinand, Tate Ferdinand and Tia Ferdinand

Lorenz, Tate and Tia Ferdinand were children when Kate became part of the household. They had already experienced a major loss, so trust could not be rushed. Kate has explained that step-parenting develops through routines, conversations, boundaries and small acts of care.

In 2026, Tate Ferdinand returned to Kate’s Blended podcast to discuss the family’s early years. His contribution showed how loyalty, grief and fear can affect children when a parent begins a new relationship, while family bonds grow through patience and understanding.

Kate Ferdinand’s Books, Podcast and Family Work

Kate launched the Blended platform in December 2021. The project grew from her own experience and gives families a place to discuss second marriages, divorce, grief, co-parenting, adoption, fostering and step-parent relationships.

Her 2023 book, How To Build A Family, offers guidance on earning trust, handling comparisons with a previous partner and supporting children through change. It recognises that every household has its own history and emotional needs.

Kate also wrote The Family Tree, a children’s picture book about a family changing after a new member arrives. Its story about fairies, baking and friendship shows that families can take different forms while remaining secure and loving.

Kate Ferdinand Instagram and Public Life

Kate’s verified Instagram account is @xkateferdinand. She has more than one million followers and uses the platform to share family moments, fitness content, fashion, travel, wellness ideas and updates about her work. Her bio identifies her as the founder of Blended and One Body Co.

In June 2026, she shared a birthday post captioned “A birthday to remember 🌊💛”. The photographs showed a relaxed family celebration. She turned 35 that month.

Kate has also used Instagram to share major family news. In August 2025, she announced that she and Rio were making a new home in Dubai, where their relationship began. Her social-media work connects her past as a television personality with her present role as a mother, author and business founder.

    How Old Is Kate Ferdinand?

Kate Ferdinand turned 35 on 3 June 2026. During the past decade, she has moved from TOWIE cast member to fitness writer and a leading voice on blended families.

    Kate Ferdinand’s Lasting Influence

Kate Ferdinand’s public journey is not limited to reality television or marriage to a famous footballer. TOWIE introduced her to a national audience, but her books, podcast and social platforms gave her an independent identity.

    Conclusion

Kate Ferdinand is a television personality, author, fitness creator, wife and mother whose life has developed through several major changes. From her years on TOWIE to her marriage with Rio Ferdinand, she has remained connected to family, wellbeing and personal growth.

Today, her work centres on the realities of blended families. Through Instagram, books and the Blended podcast, she offers an honest view of the patience and care needed to build strong relationships. Her journey shows that family is created not only through birth, but also through trust, respect and daily support for many families.
