    Ellie Pitt

Ellie Pitt has developed an impressive career in British broadcast journalism, moving from regional newsrooms and university placements to a prominent national role with ITV News. Professionally known as Ellie Pitt, she has worked across television production, presenting, breaking news, health journalism and long-form investigations. Her experience includes work with The Guardian, BBC, Sky News, ITV West Country, Made in Bristol TV, ITV Cymru Wales and ITN. Today, she is based in London and works as a general reporter for ITV News, covering major stories for television and digital platforms.

Her professional journey is notable for its steady progression rather than overnight fame. Strong academic results gave her an excellent foundation, while early placements allowed her to understand how major newsrooms operate under pressure. A BAFTA scholarship later supported her postgraduate journalism training. Since then, Pitt has built a career covering difficult court cases, health issues, consumer affairs, social problems and investigations that have reached Parliament. Away from television, she keeps much of her private and family life away from public attention.

Ellie Pitt Age and Early Life in Gloucestershire

Ellie Pitt’s fuller name is Eleanor Pitt. A contemporary BAFTA record from 2013 identified Eleanor Pitt as being from Stroud in Gloucestershire and stated that she was 22 years old at the time. Her own birthday celebrations across social media also place her birthday in July. Evidence from her 30th birthday celebrations in 2021 strongly supports 1991 as her birth year, meaning she turned 35 during the summer of 2026.

Her birthday falls in the middle of July. Personal posts shared across several years show birthday celebrations taking place on 16 and 17 July, although the exact day has not been formally documented in an official biography. For accuracy, it is safest to state that Ellie Pitt was born in July 1991 rather than presenting a precise date as certain.

Pitt has strong roots in Stroud, Gloucestershire. She attended Stroud High School between 2002 and 2009, where her studies included A-level English Literature, Geography and Politics. She also completed 12 GCSEs. Her interest in writing, current affairs and communication was already visible before she entered professional journalism, and these subjects provided a natural foundation for the career she would later pursue.

Ellie Pitt Education and Academic Achievements

After leaving school, Ellie Pitt attended the University of Birmingham between 2009 and 2012. She studied English and graduated with a First-Class Bachelor of Arts degree. During university, she contributed to the student newspaper and also acted as a mentor to pupils aged 15 and 16 at a secondary school in Birmingham. These activities gave her experience in writing for an audience while also developing the confidence and communication skills required for television journalism.

Her academic progress continued when she joined City University London for an MA in Television Journalism from 2013 to 2014. She achieved a First in the postgraduate course. City has long been associated with professional journalism training, and the programme gave Pitt practical experience in television production, interviewing, newsroom work and broadcasting.

A particularly important achievement came in 2013 when BAFTA selected her for one of its UK scholarships. She received £9,000 towards her postgraduate television journalism course. BAFTA described her as Eleanor Pitt, aged 22, from Stroud, and noted her First-Class English degree from Birmingham. The award provided both financial assistance and recognition at an important stage in her developing career.

How Ellie Pitt Began Her Journalism Career

Ellie Pitt began gaining professional experience before completing her postgraduate degree. In October 2012, she spent time in the BBC factual department working on The Last Heroes of D-Day. Her duties included research, transcribing interviews and assisting during filming. Although this was an early position, it introduced her to factual television production and the organisation required behind the camera.

The following month, she joined The Guardian’s news desk as an intern. During this period, she contributed to stories covering subjects such as ash dieback disease and rhino poaching. She also assisted with investigative research and worked with responses connected to a Freedom of Information request. Her name appeared on published Guardian journalism, giving her valuable experience in national news before she moved fully towards television.

Ellie Pitt and Breaking Into News

One of the most significant opportunities in Pitt’s early career came through ITN’s Breaking Into News initiative. She developed a television story concerning the growing use of the illegal drug MCAT among young people in Gloucestershire. Producing the piece required her to develop the original idea, research the subject, find a suitable case study and arrange interviews, including one with Gloucestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

The finished television package and studio interview were broadcast by ITV West Country. The experience gave Pitt an early taste of professional television journalism and helped establish her connection with ITV. She later spent time in the ITV West Country newsroom, developing her knowledge of regional news production and conducting interviews across human-interest, sport, culture and entertainment stories.

Ellie Pitt at ITV London, Sky News and the BBC

While studying Television Journalism in London, Ellie Pitt completed placements with some of Britain’s best-known broadcasters. At ITV News London, she conducted sensitive human-interest and political interviews, helped organise interviews and researched material for television graphics. She also worked with a small production team on a live location interview involving former tennis player Tim Henman.

Her placement at Sky News gave her experience with the Sunrise programme. Working during overnight and early-morning hours, she helped prepare the morning bulletin, selected and edited video, wrote short news items and produced briefing material for presenters. She also assisted with newspaper reviews and responded quickly when breaking stories developed during live programming. Sky later invited her back to help with local election coverage, where accurate results had to be processed quickly for live television and online output.

In the summer of 2014, Pitt also worked as a Broadcast Journalist for the BBC in Gloucestershire. By this stage, she had already gained experience across print, factual television, regional broadcasting and national television newsrooms, placing her in a strong position to secure a permanent on-screen role.

Ellie Pitt at Made in Bristol TV

From September 2014 until September 2016, Ellie Pitt worked as a reporter and presenter for Made in Bristol TV. The position required much more than presenting finished scripts. Pitt was involved in finding stories, filming material, interviewing contributors, editing footage and preparing content for broadcast. At times, she had to produce multiple stories in a single day while meeting strict television deadlines.

One of the most difficult assignments of this period was the Becky Watts murder case. Pitt later discussed the emotional impact of covering such a serious court case and the responsibility involved when dealing with distressing evidence and grieving relatives. Experiences such as this strengthened her ability to handle sensitive stories while maintaining the professional standards expected of a television journalist.

Ellie Pitt ITV Career and Work in Wales

Ellie Pitt returned to ITV in April 2017 as a Production Journalist in the Greater Bristol area. After more than two years behind the scenes, she progressed to an On-Screen Journalist role in May 2019. The position took her to Cardiff, where she became part of ITV Cymru Wales and covered a broad range of Welsh stories.

Her work in Wales included health, social care, public services and political issues. She covered pressure on the NHS, missing cancer diagnoses during the pandemic period, staffing difficulties in social care, mental-health services and other stories affecting families across Wales. She also worked on wider political and social subjects, including the growth of support for Welsh independence.

This stage of her career allowed Pitt to combine live broadcasting with deeper specialist coverage. Her ability to handle health stories became particularly important, especially when medical and public-service issues dominated national discussion.

Ellie Pitt at ITV News and Major Investigations

In February 2022, Ellie Pitt moved into a national position as an ITV News Reporter with ITN. She now works as a general reporter, covering stories for ITV’s television programmes and digital platforms. Her role has taken her into investigations, court stories, consumer affairs and major health features.

One of her most significant pieces of work concerned the collapse of Football Index. Pitt investigated how customers lost substantial sums after the football-based platform failed and examined questions surrounding regulation and consumer protection. Her work later received recognition in the House of Commons. During a 2024 debate, MP Liz Twist acknowledged Pitt alongside journalists from The Times and The Guardian for helping keep the issue in national attention and giving affected customers a voice.

Another major area of her recent journalism has been the cosmetic procedures industry. Pitt worked on investigations into unsafe treatments, including liquid Brazilian Butt Lift procedures, examining the risks created by poorly trained practitioners and weak regulation. The work developed into wider ITV coverage of Britain’s aesthetics industry and contributed to growing national debate about patient protection.

Her journalism continued to cover major medical subjects in 2026. She gained access to an extraordinary 11-hour operation in which surgeons removed a 7kg cancerous tumour from a man’s neck. The assignment demonstrated her ability to combine sensitive human storytelling with complex medical journalism.

Ellie Pitt Husband and Personal Relationships

Ellie Pitt keeps her romantic life away from her professional work. No dependable evidence confirms that she has a husband, and she has not publicly identified a current partner in a way that can be confidently established. Her Instagram includes photographs from weddings, holidays and social occasions with friends and colleagues, but none of these provides firm evidence that she is married.

    Ellie Pitt Parents and Siblings

Details concerning Ellie Pitt’s parents are limited. Some secondary material has named Penny Pitt as her mother and Dave Thomas as her stepfather, but these names have not received the same level of direct confirmation as Pitt’s education, career or sister. Her biological father’s identity has also not been established through a strong source. For that reason, family names beyond her confirmed sister should be treated with caution.

    Ellie Pitt Younger Sister Lucy

Ellie’s relationship with her younger sister is much clearer because Pitt herself has spoken about her publicly. In October 2021, she shared a birthday message saying that 22 years earlier she had been given a little sister and that the experience had changed her life forever. She tagged an account belonging to Lucy and described the close bond between them.

The post establishes that Lucy was born in 1999 and that Ellie is the older sister. Lucy continues to interact with Ellie’s social posts, showing that the sisters remain close. Some sources have called Lucy her half-sister and have also named George Thomas as a younger half-brother. However, the connection with George does not yet have the same direct confirmation, so it should not be presented as firmly established.

Ellie Pitt Social Media and Life Away From ITV

Ellie Pitt maintains an active presence on social media alongside her television work. On X, she uses the handle @ElliePittTV and identifies herself as an ITV News Reporter in London. Her Instagram account, @ellie_pitt, describes her as a news reporter based in London and has attracted more than 8,000 followers.

Her Instagram provides a more personal view of life away from broadcasting, including holidays, birthday celebrations, weddings, friendships and time with family. Even so, she keeps some aspects of her private life firmly outside the spotlight. There is no dependable figure for her height or personal net worth, and neither detail should be presented as fact without stronger evidence.

Ellie Pitt’s Growing Reputation in British Journalism

Ellie Pitt’s career reflects years of steady development across different areas of British journalism. From studying English at Birmingham and receiving a BAFTA scholarship to working at The Guardian, BBC, Sky News and regional television, she built experience before becoming a national ITV News reporter. Her work now combines daily news coverage with investigations capable of influencing wider public debate.

At 35 in 2026, Pitt has already spent more than a decade working professionally in journalism. Her coverage of Football Index, cosmetic procedure safety, health services and major medical cases demonstrates the breadth of her work. While she remains private about her romantic relationships and much of her family background, her professional achievements are well established. From her beginnings in Stroud to her current role in London, Ellie Pitt has become an experienced and recognisable member of the ITV News team.
